With the legalization of marijuana in Canada, the need for child-resistant packaging has been on the rise. We're happy to announce that we have a new product option for our flexible packaging customers: child-resistant zippers!

What is a child-resistant zipper?

For any products that could be deemed harmful when in the hands of children, it's imperative to have a barrier that keeps children safe without making the products difficult for adults to open. These can range from cannabis products, nicotine products, chemical products, pharmaceutical products, and so on.

How does it work?

The Zip-Pak Safety-Lok opens when the consumer pushes down on the two small tabs in the zipper and pulls them apart. This intuitive design allows for older consumers to open these products with ease, while still maintaining a protective barrier against young children.

How is it tested?

Prior to production, quality control personnel perform and sign off on several checks, including a zipper placement check, leak detector test, seal creep test, and zipper alignment test. They also verify the tab portion of the zipper by testing the child resistance function three times. These checks ensure that the zipper performs as it's supposed to.
