Our next staff interview is with one of our senior sales representatives: Don Tabata! 

1) How long have you worked at Associated?

I started back in 1987, while we were still at the original location on East Cordova!

2) Describe your journey at Associated so far. 

It's gone by really fast! Looking back, it's incredible to see how much Associated has grown. When I started there were only around 12 employees, and I was actually surprised to learn the other day that we're close to 200 employees now. It's also amazing to see the growth in individuals, and how so many have worked their way up from starting on the production floor.

3) How would you describe the work environment?

Very close-knit, like a family. 

4) What is your favorite thing about working here?

It has to be the people.

5) What's been your best day at work so far?

It's hard to pinpoint one day, but I think that any day when you hear positive feedback from customers is a really good one. Especially when you're able to come through for a customer, like when they're asking for something very unique or last minute. It's what makes the job enjoyable. 

6) What are you most proud of since working here?

I would have to say the number of customers we've retained over the years and maintaining great relationships with them.

7) Do you have a particular moment or memory at Associated that stands out for you?

When we got the W&H (Windmoeller & Hoelscher 52" MIRAFLEX AM 10 Colour Flexographic Printing Press). It's so big and felt like a huge deal, especially as we only had narrow web presses at the time. Another big memory was moving to Coquitlam and going from a small print shop in Vancouver to this brand-new building.

8) What does a typical day look like for you?

Just replying to emails, talking to customers, and handling any inquiries! 

9) Describe the advancement opportunities here. 

There are tons of opportunities for growth, especially as we're growing so fast. Just looking back on the last few years, there are so many new roles and areas as we're just growing all of the time.

10) What is on your wish list for the next 5 years? 

Growing our equipment collection! And for the Seattle Seahawks to win the Superbowl, of course.

11) Given the chance, who would you be for a day?

Wayne Gretzky because why not! He's very talented and seems like a good person.
