What is Roll Direction?

Roll direction can be a little confusing, but it's extremely important when it comes to your labels or roll stock moving smoothly on to the next step in the production process.

If your labels and/or packaging are moving onto a machine after being manufactured, they need to be aligned with the machine to ensure that the packaging comes out exactly as envisioned - this is the job of your packaging manufacturer. Without taking this step, you could end up with upside-down, back-to-front, or inside out labels and/or packaging!

At Associated, we go by the eight roll directions depicted in the image below. These eight options cover all of the bases so that your final product will come out perfectly, no matter how many steps in the production process. We always ask our customers about the machines that will be used on the packaging solution after leaving our facility so that we can adjust our artwork and production setup accordingly. If you already have a co-manufacturer, we can work together with them to confirm the roll direction. There's no such thing as being too careful with your packaging solution!
