Single-Serve Packaging

Even prior to COVID and the increased consumer concern regarding product hygiene, single-serve packaging has been on the rise. While some may deem single-serve packaging wasteful, it does also reduce food spoilage and has many other benefits.

In the beauty industry, brands opt for single-use packaging for samples and trial size products, as well as travel-friendly products. Many brands have created travel-friendly versions of existing products so that their customers can travel with ease and without having to worry about airline restrictions when it comes to liquids.

In the snack industry, single-serve packaging is typically created in the form of a pouch, bag, bar wrapper, sachet, or stick pack, which makes it travel-friendly, controls portion sizes, and reduces food waste and spoilage. At the beginning of this year, snacks accounted for 51% of all food sales in the US (Viking Masek, 2020), with some consumers even starting to eat several snacks as a replacement for meals. In addition to this shift in eating habits, the demand for convenience has only increased in the last few years.

Since March and the spread of COVID, single-serve packaging has been beneficial for brands in many ways. With the increased stress from a global pandemic comes the increased demand for snacks. Not only has the demand increased significantly, but consumers are leaning more toward individual portions instead of family-sized or shared packaging, as they’re individually sealed and protected. There is also more demand for more snack range, such as protein-heavy snacks and other healthier options.

Beyond the pandemic, single-serve packaging will remain prominent in the packaging industry. If you’re interested in finding out more or have any questions, reach out to us via our online contact form or request a quote online today!
