What is Clean Labeling?

The phrase "clean labeling" or "clean label" has been popping up more and more in the food industry over the last few years, but what does it mean?

In addition to the recent updates to nutrition fact table labels, consumers are pushing for natural and simple ingredients in their food, and nutritional information that is easy to read. Artificial additives and GMOs are being removed from more and more products, and being replaced with natural sweeteners, iron, calcium, minerals, fiber, vitamins, protein, and antioxidants. With the average consumer being more invested in health and wellness than ever, the expectation is for transparent labeling and fresh ingredients.

This presents an opportunity for packaging specialists to be able to extend shelf life for food products that are "as fresh as possible." With our innovations in lidding film and pouches, as well as our IFS certification, we're up for the challenge.

Although "clean labeling" may sound like a trend, this movement is here to stay. With consumers placing a high importance on brand transparency, ingredients, and authenticity, companies are adopting a "clean label" approach to their products.
