How do you choose between flexographic printing or digital printing for your packaging?

At Associated, we offer both printing methods as there are pros and cons to each method! If you haven’t already seen it, we break down the definitions and the pros and cons of digital and flexographic printing in this blog post.

Whether you're needing labels or flexible packaging, here are some questions you may need to answer to help us determine the best printing method for your product:

What quantity of labels or packaging pieces are you printing?

Digital printing is the better option for shorter to mid-range runs, where flexographic printing may work out to be less expensive for larger orders.

Is your packaging design likely to change soon?

With no plates required, digital printing may be for you if you’re considering changing your packaging design in the near future. Unlike flexographic printing where plates must be created for each colour in the design, which means changes can be costly.

What finishes are you looking to apply?

Some finishes like lamination and varnishing can be integrated directly into the press line for flexographic printing, making for a smoother production.

How many variations are you looking to print for?

If you're printing a product with multiple scents, flavours or other variations, digital printing may be the best method for you. With tools like variable data printing, multiple design variations can be printed with ease on the same run.
