Next up for our staff spotlight is Kevin Arenburg. Kevin is our Buyer at ALP and an integral team member!

How long have you worked at Associated?

June 4th was my 26-year anniversary!

Describe your journey at Associated so far.

It all began with Shaun’s Father believing in me when I got the job in 1996. My first position was an industrial assistant with a starting wage of $8.63/ hour! Two months later, I was training to be a press operator, followed by Quality Control years later. Approximately 15 years ago, I began my current position in procurement, all though the position at the time involved flexo management and scheduling as well. This quickly became overwhelming as the company grew and my position became more specific to buying only, where I am today!

How would you describe the work environment?

Comfortable, friendly, non-confrontational. “Attitude is everything.”

What is your favorite thing about working here?

The people are great. I know its an easy answer and everyone says it, but that because it’s true. I have a lot of friends for life still with the Associated Family, and some that have moved on.

What's been your best day at work so far?

I’d say any day that’ I’ve been told that I’m getting a pay increase or a promotion! It’s not all out money but it’s nice feeling that you are appreciated, and your hard work is acknowledged.

What are you most proud of since working here?

Work Ethics and Reliability.  There are not too many days when I drive to work thinking, “I don’t want to go to work today”.  When I wake up in the morning, I’m already mentally going through my work day, preparing and reviewing what I need to accomplish.

What is the biggest challenge you've had since working here?

Managing and interacting with people. Everyone is their own unique person and you better know your audience and be very careful how you relay your message!

Do you have a particular moment or memory at Associated that stands out for you?

My first day of work, which was technically my second day because I was a no show on Day 1! I didn’t have a phone, my roommate at the time didn’t have one either, so my contact number was my roommate’s Brother!  I didn’t get the message that I got the job until the next day.  What a disaster!

What does a typical day look like for you, and what are you currently working on?

The first thing I usually tackle in the morning, with my first coffee in hand of course, is checking/responding to my e-mails, as I realize my colleagues rely on me for quick answers, usually regarding pricing and the arrival dates of materials or anything else that I have recently ordered. Later in the day, I’m reviewing internal order requisitions and submitting orders to our suppliers. I am always looking for new suppliers, better products and better pricing.

Describe the advancement opportunities here.

With the right attitude and work ethic, unlimited!

How does Associated support professional development?

I’ve had many opportunities to develop professionally and I’ve happily accepted. The support is there for anyone!

What is on your wish list for the next 5 years?

Let’s say 7 years, do I dare say retirement!? It’s a personal goal, not sure if it’s attainable, but we will see! Until that day however, I want to build a supplier/vendor list that will give us the opportunity to always have a secondary supplier for all products. During these challenging times, the importance of this has became very clear to me.

Given the chance, who would you be for a day?

The Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, of course! Who wouldn’t want to be a 26 year old making 5 Million dollars a year, and playing for the best team in football!
